The Flamenco Hotel next to Metro Towers in Zamalek has a small basement bar, which is a popular hangout. It's low ceilings, lounges and dim lighting give it a romantic atmosphere and makes it a favoured drinking spot for the hardworking and thirsty journalist crowd in Cairo.
The staff will meet you with a friendly smile and make sure your glass is never empty. The waiters will provide your table with free bread and vegetable sticks with cheese dip, and it is also possible to order food if you should get more hungry.
The happy and friendly Khaled and Khaled, AKA the two Khaleds, usually man the bar. You will also find several friendly regulars hanging out until close and is popular with foreigners and Egyptians alike.
There is a simple food menu but don't expect anything spectacular, it's decent pub food at a decent price. The steak with peppercorn sauce, while the more expensive option, is probably the best on the menu.
Flamenco Bar is a great place to go for a beer after work as an alternative to Rooftop if the Cairo weather is ether too hot or too cold for being outdoors.
